• Barely a kilometre from Castellar, on a rocky ledge in an area known as the Altos del Sotillo, stands this Iberian sanctuary dating from the 4th century BC.
  • Three natural caves make up the sanctuary, the largest being the Caverna del Ídolo, with an area of 32 square metres.
  • Its core is the Cueva de la Lobera, which had up to five adjoining caves that may have been used as dwellings.
  • In front of the Caverna del Ídolo lay a man-made esplanade of about 170 square metres where the faithful worshipped Iberian deities such as the moon or the goddess of fertility.
  • The sanctuary was laid out on several terraces linked by ramps and monumental stairways.
  • Many bronze votive offerings have been found, human figures and domestic animals between 2 and 14 centimetres tall, which the faithful laid before the gods.
