- Barely a kilometre from the Fuenmayor recreation area, along the path of the same name, we come to a lovely waterfall called the Zurreón.
- Because of its altitude, it is often completely frozen in the winter months.
- Following the path we enjoy spectacular views of the cherry and almond orchards that abound here and, as we gain height, we can make out the village of Torres and the mountains around it.
- Although the area can be visited all year round, spring is the best time, when both the cherry and the almond trees are in blossom, making the landscape even more beautiful.
More about this place…
The Fuenmayor recreation area is one of the most popular spots not only in the Sierra Mágina Natural Park but in the whole province. Right next to it starts a path that, in a steady, moderate climb, leads to the Zurreón waterfall. Along the way we see a mix of landscapes: cherry and almond orchards, planted pine woods and holm oaks, which prevail for much of the way alongside the scrub. Following this path we can climb one of the highest peaks in the province, the Peña de Jaén, and from there follow the ridge to Pico Mágina, the roof of the province at 2,164 metres.
