- In this second instalment we cover the climb to the Peña de los Buitres and its survey point, then carry on to complete this circular path.
- From quite a distance we can already make out the spectacular cliffs of the Peña de los Buitres, to whose top we can climb to enjoy the most spectacular views of the whole route from a purpose-built viewpoint.
- Carrying on along the path towards the survey point, we come across the contadero, a natural narrowing between two rocks that helped shepherds count their flock, since the animals had to pass one at a time.
- We end our climb at the survey point, 1,126 metres up, where the Pedregosa watchtower once stood, with overwhelming views.
- From the survey point we carry on to the Siete Pilillas recreation area, where we started, having enjoyed a lovely, easy route, ideal for families.
More about this place…
The La Serrezuela circular path is an easy loop, ideal for doing with children, and of singular beauty. We can start from different points, the Siete Pilillas viewpoint or the village of Pegalajar, joining a well-kept path along which we enjoy lovely views from its many viewpoints, such as the Peña de los Buitres. The walk also brings us closer to the history of Pegalajar: its rural architecture in the chozos, its role as a natural border between the Christian and Nasrid kingdoms in the remains of the Pedregosa watchtower, and its most remote past in the rock paintings of the Serrezuela shelter. To round off our day in the country, we can have a picnic in the Siete Pilillas recreation area, a place famous for gliding and other unpowered flight.
