- The new castle of Bedmar was built in 1411 by the Order of Santiago.
- Bedmar held a strategically important position, on the border between Christian territory and the Kingdom of Granada.
- That led to the building of the new castle, using the latest advances of the time in fortification: zigzag walls, a double enclosure, side entrances and so on.
- Now in private hands (and up for sale), the castle is in a sorry state of repair.

More about this place…
The new castle of Bedmar stands on the Peña Marta, in the upper part of the village. Bedmar lay on the border between Christian and Muslim territory, so it changed hands between Arabs and Christians many times. For that reason, in 1411 the Order of Santiago built the new castle, since the old one could not be defended properly against the constant Muslim attacks. Today Bedmar Castle, declared a Site of Cultural Interest by the Junta de Andalucía in 1985, is in ruins for lack of upkeep.
