More about this place…
Jaén is a land of castles and battles: its strategic position between the old kingdoms of Granada and Castile led to the building of many fortifications. Among them stands out the Castle or Fortress of La Mota, in Alcalá la Real. On a hill more than 1,000 metres high, it is one of the largest walled enclosures in all of Andalusia. It was declared a national monument in 1913.
