- In the town of Jódar, in an old school occupied in the early 1990s, El Huerto de la Cora is a reality built on the solidarity and unpaid work of the members of the association that runs it.
- Its terraces hold a complex mix of promising plant species and varieties of high agro-ecological value, highly singular and many of them almost unknown or at risk of disappearing, which has drawn experts and scholars from countless parts of the world.
- Today the garden keeps some 400 different varieties, either growing or in its seed bank.
- Since 2013 the Huerto de la Cora Eco-cultural Association has had official recognition and the use of the land, by unanimous agreement of all the political groups on Jódar Town Council.
More about this place…
Everything at El Huerto de la Cora has a reason, a story that goes unnoticed by the visitor. You have to decipher the meaning of each element and each inhabitant of this place to understand the true value of what the walls of this old school hold, which, though no longer filled with the laughter and games of children, still stands for life and the future. Thanks to the members of the Huerto de la Cora Eco-cultural Association, a true laboratory is at work here: recovering and preserving local seeds, and some from other provinces, at risk of extinction, and growing plants from other parts of the world considered especially interesting for the climate of the area.
