- In the historic centre of Garcíez, this palace built in 1548 is one of the finest examples of Renaissance civil architecture in the province of Jaén.
- It departs from the traditions of the town palace and the fortress palace and can be classed as a rural palace or villa, its form shaped by the farming needs of its lords.
- Originally built by the heirs of the old lordship of the county of Garcíez, its last occupants were the Marquises of Viana.
- Declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2006, its state of repair leaves much to be desired, which is why it is on the heritage red list.
More about this place…
In the second Lugares Míticos de Jaén book, José Antonio Beltrán describes this palace as one of the architectural wonders of the classicism of the Upper Guadalquivir. Seat of the lordship of Garcíez, this Renaissance building has shaped the urban, economic and social development of the village. Despite many alterations, the palace keeps its original structure: a rectangular plan on two storeys. The arcaded galleries of its two courtyards, around which the palace is laid out, are particularly beautiful.
