- In the municipality of La Guardia, barely 500 metres from the village, lies this Visigothic site whose tombs are cut into the rock.
- According to research, the necropolis would extend all around the village, which makes it one of the most important in the country.
- The first archaeological excavation was carried out in 1954, examining 22 tombs, of which only 7 were intact.
- The tombs examined were oval and extremely elongated, and followed no particular orientation.
- Next to this Visigothic necropolis, barely 30 metres away, lies another from the Muslim period.
More about this place…
Near the village of La Guardia lie scattered great blocks of sedimentary rock and limestone. On top of them are the tombs that make up the Cerrillo Salido necropolis. According to research, the tombs were cut after the geological movements that made the rock masses sink and break apart. For that reason they follow no particular orientation, but rather make the most of the space available.
