- In the Despeñaperros Natural Park, past the hamlet of Miranda del Rey, starts the signposted Molino del Batán path.
- This lovely walk of barely 9 kilometres one way takes its name from the ruins of old mills, or fulling mills (batanes).
- Of Arab origin, the Batán mill stands in a lovely ravine through which runs a stream covered by a lush riverside forest.
- On the way we also come across the ruins of a flour mill, and the path ends at a cistern whose water is kept for putting out fires.
More about this place…
This path lets us enjoy all the beauty of the Despeñaperros Natural Park, with the landscapes typical of Sierra Morena, a huge mountain range more than 400 kilometres long. On our way to the ruins of the Batán mill we cross a lovely ravine, walking beside the waters of several streams, one of them named after the mill, under a lush riverside forest of ash and alder.
