- In a building put up at the beginning of the 20th century, “El Bodegón” is one of the oldest and most peculiar establishments in Jaén.
- The premises first held the building’s wine cellars, then became a vegetable store, until it opened as a bodegón during the Second Republic.
- Today this century-old business is still a grocer’s and a wine bar, where customers of every age come together.
- The building it occupies has been listed by the Junta de Andalucía as part of the ethnological heritage of Jaén.
More about this place…
El Bodegón is one of the most emblematic places in Jaén, a peculiar spot that is both a wine bar and a grocer’s and still keeps the essence of the traditional. In the very centre of Jaén, in an early 20th-century building, El Bodegón awaits at any time of day: for breakfast, for a glass of wine at midday or to enjoy a night out in Jaén. The oldest customers say that there was once a goldfinch called “the innkeeper” that fluttered around inside, ate the crumbs of the tapas and drank from the glasses of wine.
